This month, the literary spotlight falls on pioneering science writer and educator, Arabella Burton Buckley (1840- 1929).
Buckley, the assistant of Charles Lyell, the geologist (1797- 1875), himself an associate of Charles Darwin, used her position to advocate for science education for children, through fairytales and imaginative storytelling.
Buckley, also used her position, to advocate for widening access for women in science, in an era when scientific research was male-dominated, and through her own work challenged male- centric, Darwinian evolutionary theory.
