This month's featured book, is a 1970, 1st UK edition of Dr Timothy Leary's, counter-culture, examination of the human condition, and psychedelics. Leary, who was an academic, and psychologist who taught at Harvard University (mainly) was an early advocate of the use of psychedlic drugs (such as LSD), in psychiatric medicine, is a figure synonymous with 1960s counter-culture. Although his advocacy of psychedlics, was controversial, and polarised medical and public opinion, and despite being considerably older than many leading figures on the counter-culture scene (he was born in 1922), Leary's name, legacy, reputation & mantra: ‘Turn on, tune in, drop out’ left its mark on popular culture.
This copy, is a very nice 1st UK print edition from 1970, with a fantastic cover art by Martin Sharp (1942-2013), is an interesting and rare slice of counter-culture writing.
