Book of the Month- August 2025- The Coming Of The Fairies

£500.00

Published in 1922, this first editon by Arthur Conan Doyle (of Sherlock Holmes fame), examined the famous Cottingley Fairy photos.

Like many people in the period following the first world war, Conan Doyle was interested in spiritualism and 'other worldly' phenomena. Years later (in the 1980s), the photos (originally taken by two young girls in 1917) were revealed as fake. But interest in this 'charming' story endures, in spite of the controversy surrounding the girls’ claims and also the criticism which came Conan- Doyle's way, when he published his book. Doyle had experienced a similarly ‘mixed’ reaction, when he published an article on fairies, in the Christmas 1920 edition of ‘Strand’ magazine, which incorporated the Cottingley photos.

Both books are in good- very good condition, and are priced at £500 per book.
